On completion of his schooling, he undertook a National diploma course in graphic design. This was followed by five years in the field of computer graphics and software support for a computer company. He worked on insect illustration, commissioned by the Veterinary Research Institute, and the University of Pretoria. In past years he was commissioned by Philately Department of the South African post office to create artwork for postage stamps
