    Phillip Sanchez was born and raised in the Napa Valley in California and has lived in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. He explores the historical throughlines of the artist’s desire to find beauty in the grotesque. He finds inspiration in everything from bronze age vegetal motifs, viking zoomorphics, medieval marginalia, and gothic architecture, to old scientific drawings, surrealism, graffiti, and fantasy creatures. He is known to stop for small, rusted objects and strange flowers.
