Spring House In The Spring
When you take a walk, be it in the depths of a blowy-snowy winter day or the rich welcome warmth of a spring twilight, you like to have a destination... a favorite bench... maybe even your dog's favorite fire-hydrant. But your favorite destination is always some place that eases your mind... soothes the soul. It's your quiet place. Your solace. Your favorite is one almost no one else knows about. Down the path is a lopsided, ancient spring house in the hollow of a gently sloping hill. It hasn't been in use for generations. There's a hole in its cedar shake roof and the glass in its window is long gone. But someone has tried to keep up the little garden around it... the azaleas are budding and just about to burst into bloom. The dogwood tree is a bower of white, glowing petals. The leaves of the huge old maple tree behind it are at that brief, fluffy peachy-pink, right before they fill out and shade the world with cooling green. Everyone should have a springhouse in spring in their lives... even if it does look more like a fire hydrant. 0184
