Artwork thumbnail, Eric by HopeProject
Eric
This is a painting by one of our young artists, Nazgol who is a young woman from Iran. This is whats written on the back of the painting: “In this painting I have drawn Mr Eric I always wish to be like him He helps a lot of refugees In this painting Mr Eric carries a child on his shoulders, he saves the child This child holds the sheet of his wishes, Mr Eric gives the child a new life He is very brave He knows there is a shark in the sea, but he is not scared because he has faith in his god He believes that if he gives others life again that god will take care of him and nothing will harm him In the sea you see hands, those hands are dead refugees, refugees who risk their lives to cross the sea but die in the sea There is another person holding his wish sheet and he hope Mr Eric will save him There is also a lifeboat in the sea, those are the remaining refugees left And at the bottom of the sea there are many wishful thinking sheets, this is very sad We in the world need more people like Mr Eric You always help me, next to you I feel like I’m with my dad” All the paintings featured on this page are the work of refugees who are living or have lived inside the notorious Moria refugee camp on the island of Lesvos Greece. The artists come from a wide variety of countries including Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq,Sudan, South Sudan, Congo and many other countries, they have been forced to flee for their lives, fleeing conflict & persecution. They fled to the safety of Europe only to end up in one of the world most notorious and horrific camps....Camp Moria Their art tells their story! The Hope project is founded on the principles of dignity, compassion and safety for all. We aim to provide aid and support for people fleeing conflict or persecution arriving on the island of Lesvos. We strive to support refugees both arriving and staying here on Lesvos The needs and the situation are constantly changing, boats are arriving daily to the shores and the numbers of those refugees stuck on the island in poor and overcrowded conditions grow daily. The Hope Project Arts like all our projects is operated by the refugees themselves. The mission of the project is to focus on mental health and well being of refugees through various art projects There is always in danger of seeing these people as just refugees, this is only what they happened to be, we have always seen that they are a diverse group of people with incredible ideas and abilities. The arts projects goal is to provide a space for refugees and the local community to work together through music, theater, poetry, dance and art. The art works shown here are all painted by refugees that have passed through the island of Lesvos in Greece all proceeds from sales will go to The Hope Project Arts so that future artists have a place to work and express themselves Thank you for your support!
