A Simple Enough Suggestion
130mm x 180mm Collage on card 2014 When I started this small work, I didn't really know what it was I was trying to do. I had no plan or goal, I just started working. As so often is the case when you just let go and allow the piece to grow and develop, it turned out to be a really nice little collage. About half way through making it, I stopped work for a while and spent some time going through my archive of found collages. I was studying the way the lines of the various torn elements come together and the intricacies created by the layering of individual pieces. After this, when I got back to work the individual pieces of paper I was using kept getting tinier and tinier and the composition got more and more complex. It was one of those pieces that I could have just kept working on, but had to stop at some point and call it finished. I particularly like the diagonal cascade of text across the centre of the work, how the various lettering forms run together resulting in them all becoming meaningless shapes. Website
