Where: Woburn What: Private road with a Public Footpath beside When: September 2015 With What: Canon M2, 18-55mm, tripod, .5 sec, f16, iso 100 @ 55mm Try as I might, I am always seem to be late for something. I have tried setting my watch ahead of time, leave earlier to events, tried every trick in the book, something always happens to delay my arrival and this morning was again no exception. My wife needed a lift to work for 8am as her bicycle was being repaired. I woke up super early (4am) got ready with my clothes fully prepared the night before and took a look out of the window. It was very dark and uninviting, yet as I grabbed my coat and the dog I also thought I'd take my camera as well, because you never know what might happen. Now in the back of my mind I knew I had to be back for 7.30 at the latest, typically this was also the Golden hour but I knew I could not make my wife late for work so I planned a local walk only 15 minutes form home. The time was now 4.30am and off we went, a mile up the road the mist was getting heavier and I was getting more excited about the possibilities of getting a shot or two. 3 miles up the road and the mist was so thick I slowed down to a crawl, this added time to my supposed 15 minute journey and by the time I got to my destination it was 5.20. I always walk the dog for an hour so I figured I still had plenty of time, countering in the possibility of the same journey time back. We set off for our walk. The mist started to thin and the light started to appear in the sky, I stopped here and there and eventually set up the camera to take a shot, making all the necessary adjustments in time, reciprocity failure etc and took a picture and a few back up digital shots. I then continued on and the dog somewhere off in the distance bounding after fast moving things darting in and out of every hedge he could chase them into. The the light grew in the sky and the mist was very light. I'd reached my destination, a lovely gravel road with a line of trees. I checked my watch, the time was 5.50am still plenty of time to get back though I had been walking 30 minutes. I set up for the shot I came for, I fiddled and faffed with the composition, camera controls, took light readings, digital shots then eventually set up the film camera and I clicked the shutter. The dog appeared and sat there looking at me as if to say something. I looked at my watch it read 6.59am, WHAT!!?? the F...? I'm not sure what the hell happened to the time, but I packed the kit in double quick time and started jogging back in my wellington boots, as best I could back to the car. I made it back to the car, sweating profusely and totally out of breath as I recalled the last time I ran anywhere was over 10 years previously. I bundled the dog and camera equipment in the car and took a moment to catch my breath. Thankfully the mist was very thin, thin enough for my 15 minute journey time back, I checked my watch it read 7.20am, I'll just be fine I thought. What I had not countered on was the three tractors, two herds of sheep, a police car and an old lady walking across the road with a walking frame and death wish. I got home at 8.10am to a less than sympathetic wife and bowl of cold porridge. As I raced around apologising dumping my camera equipment in the house to prepare to take my wife to work she sat back and laughed at me. I asked why she was laughing and she announced that I'd got the wrong day to take her to work, that was tomorrow and that today was her day off. My uncle remarked once that I would be late for my own funeral, lets hope that's true. A bit of extra contrast added, 3 shots merged into one square one and a signature shoved on it in Photoshop. I hope you like it. © Copyright – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
