Artist's Description

This old and at the moment abandoned castle was built in the 17th century by György Szelepcsényi (a Hungarian archbishop) in the middle of a small village (Gomba/Hubice now in Slovakia). In the 19th century the land and the castle was purchased by a Hungarian nobble man Lajos Udvarnoky and it became his family residence. The towers and walls were brought down, the building was turned into a classicistic castle. In 1945 the property was confiscated by communists and turned into a school. Since 1980 however the building is empty and deteriorating. What a shame…
