After the Rain

The smell of grass and the rustle of rhythmically swaying trees,
A cool wind brushing softly across my cheek,
The tiny drops of heaven-scented water cascading down the ivy trestle
And tumbling to the soft damp earth below.

A gentle buzzing of a bumble-bee, a flutter of the weightless butterfly
Slowly drifting across the pungent fields to find a shady tree.
A shimmering pebble glistening in the creek and tadpoles creeping by,
The whisper of the fragrant pines, with soft white clouds meandering slowly past.

The musty smell of earth and soil wafting slowly through the air,
A gentle humming of the hummingbird surmising jars of red, cool nectar,
A purring kitten beneath the creeky stairs sniffing the cool, damp air
Daffodils and black-eyed Susans balleting gaily in the breeze.

Weeping willows bowed gently down to kiss the earth,
Strapping young oaks reaching gracefully for the distant sky,
While feathered birds, gentle ducks and honking geese
Frolic mischievously in the rippling stream, startling sleepy frogs.

Prickly blades of murky green grass reaching for the sky
Laden down and reeling from soft raindrops and fallen dew,
The sweet strong smell of delicate honeysuckle and fragrant roses,
Plush white clover and whispering wheat shafts dressing all the fields.
