I spent many years living and travelling on a sailing yacht.

My graphite pencil drawing of a Clipper Ship at top speed, computer enhanced by Andy’s brushes AOP in DAP

When I was recovering from a heart operation and had lots of time on my hands I began pencil drawing and acrylic painting. Since I lived and travelled on a yacht, my favourite subject was the sea, ships and especially old sailing ships.
To help in positioning and perspective I bought a kit of the Cutty Sark and after assembly and fitting sails this became my model for all my drawings and paintings, of Clipper Ships from then on.

Based on the Cutty Sark, the last of the great tea clippers.

My original sketch
Information from the history of Cutty Sark
Cutty Sark has travelled across the world, sailing under both the Red Ensign and the Portuguese flag, visiting every major port in the world through the course of her working life. In admiration of her beauty and in recognition of her fame, she was preserved for the nation by Captain Wilfred Dowman in 1922.

Since then, the old clipper has been berthed in Falmouth and Greenhithe, finally arriving at her current resting place in Greenwich in 1954.
