My graphite pencil drawing with colour added by computer of Steam Threshing in Yorkshire, England in harvest colours.

None of my images may be reproduced, copied, edited, published, or uploaded without my permission.

When I was very young in Yorkshire, at the end of WW2, I would walk to my local farm and watch the threshing of the grains. I vividly remember the noise, smoke, soot and smells of the farmyard at this time and my drawing is a view of a Yorkshire farm in the middle of steam threshing.
Threshing machines were invented in England at the end of the 18th century to separate wheat grains from the stalks. Their introduction put armies of farm labourers out of work and led to the ‘Swing Riots’ . Steam powered machines similar to the above design were used for a hundred years until superseded by combine harvesters in the 1950s.
