Artist's Description

Taken in the mid 1980’s this was one of my first ever photographs taken with my first SLR an Olympus OM20 Aperture Priority with Manual over – ride. The metering was centre weighted and back then Olympus were the pioneers behind TTL metering and exposure.

This was taken through a standard Zukio 50 mm lens and the aperture would have been shut right down to something like f22.

It was shot on a cheap roll of pre-paid print film which cost about £3.99 for 36 exposure’s (processing included). It was the first image I ever had enlarged. Max Spielman back in those days was mail order only and were the cheapest way of getting enlargements.

I scanned the last copy of a print of this image having lost the original negative several years before. Now I have a digital file to keep safe which is easier than loads of paper prints! I only had one or two dust marks to touch up which was a breeze in Photoshop otherwise the image is as shot!

The location is Barr Beacon in the West Midlands England taken on a summer August evening.
