Artist's Description

Some of the Armour plating on HMS Caroline in Alexandria drydock, Belfast.

As a light cruiser built during the age of the Battleship, she was designed to give a punch, aswell as take a few. She had 1inch armour plating on her decks and between 3 and 1 inches along her waists and waterline.

Compared to todays ships this was actually quite a lot, compared to ships of her day this was very little. However, she was designed more for speed than to take damage. This worked well to her advantage as she survived the only major naval battle of WW1, the Battle of Jutland while dozens of ships around her and thousands of men didnt.

Taken with my Fujifilm Z200 and edited in Photoshop CS5.

Exposure: 1/280sec
f-stop: f/3.8
