I refer to myself as a “Photographic Artist.” Although much of the work I create appears to be generated from artists’ media such as watercolor, chalk, ink, or embroidery, each piece has evolved from a photograph I have taken — some with some with my Nikon, some with my iPhone. I am constantly snapping, trying to capture what intrigues or impresses me on scales large and small. The art emerges when a certain shot suggests to me a non-photographic, traditionally artistic style or medium. Alternating between various digital processing programs, I modulate that photo, employing a combination of artistic intuition and painstaking experimentation. I begin with generalized adjustments in line with my initial impression. As I go, and as the applications become increasingly detail-specific, hints of new potential occasionally emerge, which may lead me down an entirely unexpected path. The style, texture, tone and color of each completed piece reflect my perception of the inherent beauty or endearing quirks of the subject. My artistic objective is to distance photography from recording objective reality, and share the delight I experience when allowing my mind’s eye to linger, mingle and play with what I see. To inspire the viewer — you — to live your life and perceive your world, even the most mundane aspects, with imagination. I hope you enjoy my artwork, and invite you to bring it into your home or wardrobe. I promise there is more to come.
