In 1975, in a small village in Eastern Highland Province of Papua New Guinea, a Bride-Price transaction is taking place. The family of the bride offer her labour to her fiancé’s family in return for pigs or land ( both of which are symbols of wealth in rural parts of that country). The bride carries a small amount of cash as a gift to her fiancé’s family. The transaction is completed and the bride and groom are considered married.
