Artist's Description

experimenting with different brushes, types of sumi ink and how they respond to different paper/techniques.
One of the problems i had in my studio was the piles and piles of boxes and paperwork and art etc . . . I could not find my tools. argh. As artists you have your favorite brushes, pencils etc . . . these are dear to you and finding some of these tools has been like finding a long lost friend . . . buried under a pile of stuff. (oh. there you are. I missed you. you okay?) :))
I want to try sumi over land art and charcoal over land art but i have found that I DO love pastel over sumi. So very UNTRADITIONAL and kinda me. :)
As I began to read up on sumi technique, I was amazed and then felt down . . . . such rigorous study/practice with much consistancy under the tutoring of a master is ideal. I never had that. One great book I have been reading “On the Laws of Japanese Painting” by Henry P. Bowie is such a marvelous source of information. I noticed all the years he spent under the direction of many (at least 4 different masters) and his dedication to learn the spoken language, the hand drawn characters, the culture, the philosophy and many techniques . . all resulted in his mastery of Japanese ink painting and so much more including the respect of so many honorable artists and people in that culture. Pretty wow stuff. I just want to grow.
