Just Past Midnight

My porch rocker awaits me at the close of day
The serene silence of so many recent nights
Is now replaced by the song of crickets
Lulling me into the reminiscence of you
My beloved. My only beloved.

The final years, months, weeks, days
Hours and alas minutes of service
And care giving passed into minutes,
Hours, days, weeks, months and years
Of grieving, weeping and endless sadness.

Yet I am not sad for you still bring me laughter.
Alone and yet not alone—you are ever in my heart.
Unloved still—yet loved beyond comprehension.

The crickets sing on as the chill of the night air
Welcomes my tired being after a hot & humid day
Rest calls to me, Go to sleep. Go to sleep.
All is well. Life is good.

Good night my most dearly beloved.
For soon enough tomorrow will come
And I will journey on in the certainty
That no matter what befalls
You ever hold me in your hands
Ever sustain me by your grace
Ever comfort me

For I am your beloved
Whom you will never leave nor let go.
Thanks be to God.

“That which you do for others, you do for Me.”
So it is written. So shall it ever be.
