Artist's Description

This is my latest project.

It’s a long story.

As I’ve said in my previous painting (some) I’ve made a box in which people place their secrets. One of the secrets I received was “I’m addicted to my mobile phone”. After many tangents, I came up with any organisms struggle for survival – emphasising the extent which people go to, to make living in modern society easy. They abuse inanimate objects – alcohol, TV, computer etc as a distraction. People also abuse other peoples emotional energy. A few ways of looking at it is, viewing our world and how would we cope if we suddenly stoped sucking the energy from thousands of kgs of coal each day. Electricity makes life easier for humans to live their modern lifestyles, but ultimately, it’s ruining us as a species (reg. green house gasses etc) compare this with a virus. A virus’s purpose is to survive. On a host. Without the host – the virus willnot exist. The only way of the virus winning, is if it kills the host. We are a virus and the earth is our host.

Anyway, enough of biology.

So the point is, the tree represents any life on this planet, it’s sucking the life out of inanimate objects, eg. alcoholic cans being crushed by the trees roots, or a mobile phone (you can’t see any of these objects here) I’ve even got my little paws on some coal. I was thinking of going into nuclear energy, but I think using uranium may be taking it a little too far, considering I don’t want to kill everyone with gamma rays…or do I..?:P

But the whole point is reflecting mass consumers and, not that I’m very religious, but the ‘sinful’ characteristics of any living thing – the ultimate aim is to survive.

I’m making snow domes, inspired by Fiona Hall (she’s weird, look her up) so people can view themselves in a little ordainment.

This is just a tree taken in the blottom of the shower. He’s my precious. Mine.
