My Current State

Fifty miles away
from where I drink this cup,
Twenty-five away
from where I grew up.
A stones throw away,
from where I kicked and screamed.
Across the line in the river
where we lose the American dream.

As you check in on
your friends’ current status update,
There are bridges to cross
to put food on your daughter’s plate.
It can come like a hurricane,
Katrina, have you seen her?
The storm next door,
Chicanos, Wetbacks, and Beaners.

We will try to make the border a little greener,
Just be sure to stop at Wal-Mart
and buy us some Chinese chemical cleaner.

Artist's Description

This is my first post so be kind, or not. Trying to see if my words can spark a conversation. I believe that there are people out there who feel as I do and want to get certain issues in people’s minds and not just fade away.
