Simply put, a mistake

That night there was a snow-like rain, but still, I wanted beer. I bundled in my largest coat, which was stashed between the vacuum and a box labeled winter stuff.

I tucked my chin inside the coat’s collar. However, the real trouble was contained within my shoes. About five minutes into the walk, just as I passed the for sale sign in front of that abandoned house, my toes began to get wet. Instead of trudging back, I trudged on.

At home, well the place I stay, I left the beer next to the refrigerator. In the living room I stripped my feet bare and buried them under the cushions of the sofa.

I felt like crying, instead I closed my eyes and focused on the wind. Before I fell asleep, I imagined icicles; they were jarred loose, they fell, they shattered like glass at my feet.

Simply put, a mistake
