Not For You.

I close my eyes
and i hear your voice
Like nails on a chalkboard
sending chills to my spine
I try to block you out
but you proceed to drive
to break me down
Just to watch me cry

I look in the mirror
I see your criticizing eye
Your ever-knowing smile
Exaggerating every flaw every mistake
every imperfection i try to fake
But as I shy away to cry
you say pick yourself up and fly
C’mon it’s worth a try

But how can I fly
When you’re holding me down?
You’re breaking my wings
You won’t let me fly
you say give it a try
but I can’t
You proceed to drive
to break me down
Just to watch me cry…

This time is different
This time I won’t cry
I’ll look in the mirror
Still see your criticizing eye
But now I realize
it’s not you I’m trying to impress
I’m not living like this
For you, I could care less

So I’ll face you with pride
take your criticism in stride
But no way will I let another tear
fall from this eye
I won’t break down and cry
You may try
with your condescending lies
your pathetic tries
But I won’t let myself
Break down
Just to let you watch me die…

Not For You.
