Artist's Description

The Pantheon of Rome is a magnificent ancient Roman temple that was later converted into a church dedicated to St. Mary and all the martyrs. Dating 125 AD, this is the most complete ancient building in Rome and one of the city’s most spectacular sights. Until the 20th century, it was the largest concrete structure in the world. (Yes, the Romans used concrete!)

The Pantheon is the burial place of several important Italians, including Vittorio Emanuele II , first king of a unified Italy and the artist Raphael. It is also an important tourist attraction and a popular place for weddings!

The “Historic Centre of Rome,” with specific mention of the Pantheon, was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1980. Furthermore, the Roman Pantheon is on Wikipedia’s list of the oldest buildings in the world.
