You and I are circles
matte and colored.

We touch chords
like bumping lyres.

Harp-like, tire-like,
you exhaust yourself

before you overlap
me. Our rubber

sings in bondage
to numbers.

The days tick off,
tick us off.

And the clocks rejoice
at the novel hue

beneath our rouge
and blue wheel-faces.

And the scientists point:
Look! There!

A kestrel!
Another one!

As if spring could be traced
in spotted raptor-fall

or caught
in scissored kiss.

Two thoughts
to stun such frangible snow:

Don’t stop the small yellow train
of ants from hunting its own tail,

and don’t believe
in squares.
