Artist's Description

Black cap tops all white face and breast; extent of rust below is variable. Common; found in leafy trees in the east, oaks and conifers in the west. There typical song is a series of nasal whistles on one pitch. Call is usually a low pitched, repeated, nasal yank. This particular bird stayed frozen in this position when a hawk appeared high above at my feeder set up, resulting in many close up shots.
