Just a note to say I’ve signed up with Instagram, where I’ll be posting some WIP photos daily so if you’re on there, either search for “whuwei” or click here to follow them. I’ll be cross-posting them to my personal Facebook page and Twitter feed so if you already follow either of them, you’ll see them anyway. I won’t be posting these WIPs anywhere else, so pick one of the three if you’d like to see some of the stages my miniatures go through.

Drawing video on Youtube

Just a shout-out for my first attempt at a full-length timelapse video of me drawing one of my Art Card miniatures from start to finish here on Youtube . It’s 12 minutes shrunk down from about two hours, so it whizzes through but at normal speed it was THE complete cure for insomnia. I may do a few more if there’s any interest (and if my complaining PC feels up to the processing) but if not, this will hopefully be of some sustenance to those who’ve been asking for this sort of thing.

Miniatures as prints

Getting to grips with RB’s new uploader has at least made me realise there is the possibility of selling my miniature ACEO creations as cards and phone cases, on which they’ll reproduce at their original size (more or less – the phone cases enlarge it by a few percent). The bigger cards won’t be as faithful but should be okay.
Shame you can’t upload sticker designs without putting up a t-shirt size version then disabling it as they’d be a logical option for ACEOs. I don’t have time for all that, but I will be enabling cards & phones on some of my better miniatures, gradually!

New Uploader problem

Can anyone tell me how to disable RB’s print products when we upload something? When I share my miniatures, I don’t want to be able to sell any prints of them (they’re way too small!) and it wasn’t an issue previously as the uploader would just say the image is too small. Now the new one reckons I want to sell them as a stupid little image on iphone cases – how do I turn this off????

Merry Christmas!

I just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays of whichever persuasion they enjoy, and to say thanks to everyone who’s commented on or favourited any of my work this year (or even just viewed it with mild curiosity). May your Christmas be Happy and your New Year be Excellent!

Baby Oil, Pencils and Pastels

Been experimenting with baby oil (stop sniggering at the back please). I nearly bought some Zest-It pencil blend the other day to try blending my various colour pencils, then I heard Baby Oil does just the same job for a fraction of the price.
Got a bottle for 99p, broke out the Q-tips et voila, it works a treat. Then I thought maybe it’d work with oil pastels too? Yep, even smoother results, almost like painting with a Q-tip, only with more control. It’s a bit tricky to get the right balance between oil & pigment but that’ll come with practice.
Tried it on my first sketchcard-size piece this morning and discovered it’ll even blend carbon pencil too, which is a bonus as that never quite sits comfortably with wax-based pencil.
So anyway, the next time you want to try something a bit different…

End of Year Clear-out

I’ve just listed on Ebay nearly all the sketchcards I still have for sale at End-of-Year reduced prices in an effort to clear the decks, so if you fancy a bargain but don’t want to brave the Consumer Zombie hordes at the shops, click here to see if there’s anything you might like.
Thanks for all the interest & support in 2012, and a very Happy New Year to everyone!

Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to anyone who reads these, and thanks to everyone for all the views & comments & faves throughout the year. May your festivities be excellent and your New Year be peaceful!

My life in action

Amazing. This morning I ordered a t-shirt off Redbubble as a gift for my brother, a bit doubtful about the postage charge but it was a perfect design.
Four hours later I receive an email from Redbubble offering free postage on all orders for the next 24 hours! They couldn’t have sent it this morning could they? Oh no. :(

New RB look

I usually shudder when one of the art forums has a makeover, but RB’s new look seems sharp, bright and not jarringly dissimilar to before. Phew!
