Drop

the other day I met her.
sweet and soft.
new and beautiful.
protecting her, cradling her.
afraid to, sworn i’d not
drop
her-so very
nervous and cautious
seasoned and scared.
quite the pair,
we two.

yesterday she sat there
at the Picnic table.
singing her own song
coloring her own picture.
almost oblivious to
the whole world.
just a girl
and heR crayons.
gentle and happy
my sweet little
baby sister.

today we watched
a video, she smiled.
Oh, how i love that
smile of hers.
brighter than the screen
she made me do the same.
i pulled her close
kissed her head
she’s grown so fast.
My best friend.
my biggest fan.

In the wake of the night
swift and savage
aged and invisible
shattered on the
ground like glass
see through
childhood heroes break.
his final action
her arms Slip.
oh no i
drop.

tomorrow she will too.
the eventual will
find her and like me
she will
drop
can’t-won’t
I cradle her
protect her
hold her closE.
she can’t
i won’t.
