Artist's Description

Many orb-weaver spiders build a new web each day. Generally, towards evening, the spider will consume their old web, rest for approximately an hour, then spin a new web in the same general location. Thus, the webs of orb-weavers are generally free of the accumulation of detritus common to other species such as black widow spiders. This beautiful lady built her web so I could see her underside, which is pretty neat. If you look closely at her rear end, you can see her spinnerets. That’s where that amazing silk comes from. I took this on my porch in Rockaway, NJ USA with my Nikon D3100 and the 85mm macro lens.
