The vibrant colors of a Monarch butterfly are a warning to potential predators that they are poisonous. This is a result of their caterpillar’s milkweed diet. It is probably the most recognizable butterfly species in the world. This little guy had flown under some large leaves on the ground and got himself stuck. He was struggling mightily to get out from under them, but to no avail. I came to his rescue and he happily climbed onto my hand for a rest. I happily snapped off a few during his respite. I took this along the shore of Lake Telemark in Rockaway, NJ USA. I used my Nikon D3100 and the 85mm macro lens.
