This is the cover shot of my Butterfly Bonanza calendar!! Enjoy!
The Buckeye Butterfly is present over much of North America in the summertime, although it is not able to overwinter in the north. Along the east coast of the U.S., there are noticeable migrations, with hordes of Buckeyes flying southward much like the Monarch migrations farther west. The buckeye’s prominent eye spots have some amazing colors, from orange to purple to iridescent royal blue. This beauty was so busy extracting nectar that he didn’t even notice me. I took this along the shores of Lake Telemark in Rockaway, NJ USA. I used a Nikon D3100 and the Nikon 85mm macro lens.
Please view this colorful beauty LARGE. =)
