Artist's Description

A white ibis, in breeding colors, at sunset…please view large and enjoy that beautiful blue eye, red face, and feet.

Description ADULT Has mostly white plumage with black wingtips, most obvious in flight. Legs, face, and long, downcurved bill are red; color is most intense in breeding season. JUVENILE Recalls adult, but has brown upper_parts, streaked brown head and neck, white underparts, and dull orange-pink legs, bill, and face. Begins to acquire elements of adult’s white plumage by first summer.

Dimensions Length: 23-27" (58-69 cm); Wngspn: 3’ 2" (97 cm)

Habitat Locally common resident of coastal belt of Gulf coast and Atlantic coast north to North Carolina. Favors wetlands and adjacent grassland.

Range Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, Florida, Texas, Southwest, Plains
