Artist's Description

This little Raccoon is a youngster that was born close to our home here on Rough River in Kentucky this past Spring. From the first time it came up on our back deck in the evening it has never shown any fear of me. In fact when it was tiny it would run over to me and climb right up my pants’ leg to see what food I was about to put out for the rest of group. Impatient little bugger! I can count on it showing up every night right at dusk along with over a dozen others and a opossum or two waiting for the buffet light to turn on. My husband and I put out dry dog food and scraps for them every night, but only enough for them to all get a bite or two, then they all will go back into the woods and continue to look for food. I do not want them to become dependent on us as their only food source. I made the mistake at first of putting out more food for them because they were so darn cute begging at the door for more. But, they’d do that all night. No matter how much food we put out they still wanted more. That was not good for them so I had to practice tough love and put out only enough to give everybody a little. They have learned that is all they will get. Once I close the blinds that’s it for the night, they learned very quickly that I won’t cave.
