New hi res image for greeting cards and prints.
Fred the tail gunner, a local man from South Shields, for whom I painted this, ask me to “Copy” Gerald Coulson painting of 617 Sqdn bombing the German battleship Tirpitz in a Norwegian Fjord but correct/alter to show him in the 3rd Lancaster, WS-X of No 9 Sqdn, and on a different day. This 12000lbs. bomb is called a Tall Boy.
On that day, just as they arrived over target the cloud rolled over the Tirpitz and they had to aim on the gun flashes that they could see through the cloud.
Fred had already done this raid from Russia earlier.
Sold a print 12 Aug 2011
Sold a Greetings Card to an Australian, 13 June 2015
