The B-36 was America’s largest bomber. On June 26, 1948, the first operational B-36 was assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC). In addition to its primary role as a strategic bomber, the B-36 served as a photo-reconnaissance aircraft. Some were converted to carry their own fighter aircraft… FICON, carrying along an F-84 Thunderjet, later an XF-85 Goblin. An experimental NB-36H was the worlds first aircraft to flly with a nuclear reactor. Displayed at the National Museum of the USAF, Dayton OH
