Artist's Description

As we were leaving New Orleans, we stopped to visit St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 on Basin Street. The oldest extant cemetery in the city. It was established by Spanish Royal decree in 1789. It is a fascinating place to visit. Tombs of some of the earliest residents are located here and also the reported final resting place of Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of the city from the 19th century.

This Cemetery was also a location featured in the film classic ‘Easy Rider’. No visit to the city would have been complete without a stop to visit this historic area.
