Artist's Description

In the Cuyahoga Valley National Park there is a wetland area with an abundance of Sycamore trees. The Great Blue Herons favor this spot as a rookery for nesting and raising their young. Some trees have over two dozen nests. This nesting tree is quite near a public roadway and observing these magnificent creatures is really quite easy. The area is fenced off to prevent public intrusion on these magnificent birds. They take full advantage of all available space in the Sycamores, even nesting close to highways and power lines. This ‘small’ tree has at least 18 nests.
