When conceptualising the T-shirt graphic I wanted to come up with a visual that was immediately recognisable to the medical health care. I found the clean graphics of the pharmaceutical packaging to do this best. As a curator I knew the works of Damien Hirst to have taken this image and put it in the contemporary pop landscape. It is important in my work from my knowledge and background to make sure my input is true to my experiences. These graphics offered a framework for all the information I needed to get across and an opportunity for it to be bold and direct like any statement T-shirt should be. The inequalities in health care opportunities and regulations between straight and gay couples up until now are totally archaic. You’d believe them an oversight if they hadn’t been present in 2009! The messages in the design are transparent as the vehicle allows me to literally spell it out.
