Artist's Description

The steam powered S Type was launched in 1934. It had a single-acting 4-cylinder underfloor engine with longitudinal crankshaft and an overhead worm-drive axle. The 3,750 built made it the biggest selling steam lorry ever being light and with a modern driver’s cab and a set-back boiler. It was available in four, six and eight-wheel versions. It could not compete with contemporary diesel trucks for all-round convenience and payload capacity and production finished in the late 1930s.
