A few things...

Firstly I’d like to thank everyone who voted for my image “Where the wild ones are” for the Blue Mountains Group avatar. I am honoured to have had my image voted in for the avatar.

Secondly today was a day of very mixed emotions for me and many others.

As many of you will know doubt have read in the past few weeks, a young man named Tom Carr-Boyd was killed in an avalanche near Blue Lake in the NSW Alps. Tom was a good friend of mine from school and today we said our final farewells at a beautiful funeral held at our old high school.

It still hasn’t sunken in how he can possible by gone. While we weren’t great mates, we still shared quite a few good times together in the wilderness through the school’s wilderness education program.

It so hard to come to terms with his death. He was so full of energy, full of life and had so much to offer that it is impossible to think that anything could have robbed him of it.

Seeing his family mourn so hard, one cannot help but be reminded of one’s own mortality, of how quickly life can be taken and how important friends and loved ones are.

Life is to short, make sure your loved ones know they’re loved, your mates know they’re valued because you simply never know when it will be too late to tell them…

RIP Tom…
