Laid bare

I quiver against darkness
bare branched arms held high
press night sky
Pleading with this night
enfold me in velvet
give me your strength

Fingers grow as talons
clawing textured aubergine
Reaching for forgiveness
the bitten apple of sin
heavy
on my soul

Responsibility leaden
weights my gut
Call out for reassurance
my intention
though noble
is it wise?

How do I balance
stay upright
midst this storm?
My roots are deep
tenure malleable
jurisdiction candid

Faith is a birdsong
singing to my heart
Courting the jester
of my puppet stage
where Punch knocks Judy
to the ground

I cry out in the night
wailing to the moon
as so many before me
And my ears discern
the heartbeat
of the universe

breathe
just breathe
so I exhale
