Artist's Description

Swinging out and around the small roof on Lichenbach, originally a grade 13 corner climb at Mt York, Blue Mountains, NSW.

While the climbs on the sunny side of Mt York are mostly around 30 metre length, there is still a nice feeling of exposure as the cliffline extends along the top of the plateau overlooking the beautiful Hartley Valley, over 300 metres below. This particular route was first climbed in the winter of 1974 by Joe Lorinez, Warwick Williams and Bill Blunt and its still very popular 35 years on.

My thanks to the climber here who repeated the route at least three times while I was shooting digital – and he made it look so easy every time!
