Artist's Description

This is dedicated to all Obsessive Plant Caretakers everywhere. Those of us who actually cry when a beloved plant ails or dies! LOL…….YES we DO!!!…….This is my green ceramic turtle ‘Plant Sitter’ watching the Miracle Of Birth, as my Succulent African Pregnant Onion drops Babies. (chincherinchee ornithogalum thyrsoides. It is a wildflower native to Africa, and has beautiful little white flowers on a long delicate stalk) This is how this plant reproduces, Baby Corms issue forth from the Mother Bulb, through the Outer Onion Skins and drop Baby Plants onto the soil. Then THEY take root. This plant, or the original Mother Plant, was smuggled from Africa in the 1970s, by a friend. She put a bunch of Baby Corms in her pockets and brought them on through customs!!!! HAD she been caught, she would have been jailed!!! She gave each of us one baby corm. And Mom and I watered and nursed that little thing for years, and have had many generations from it. Passed them along to other friends. Still do….They get about 10 inches across, then live out their life expectancy, and another generation is raised. Thats how its been with me for about 40 years with this plant. Its actually in my Will, for my heirs to care for!!……I have seen these for sale now here in America, but they are rare and can be expensive……………..Taken in Stuttgart, Ark USA with a LumixDMC ZS20.
