Artist's Description

This is a vintage scanned 35mm photo, Kodak Film…..This scanned 35mm photo from the mid 1980s, is of my Thoroughbred mare Tabu (ex saddle bronc) with her foal, Favory’s Surprise, in front. It was a double exposure. They are both gone now. The filly was 1/2 Lipizzan, Favory line. The mother was a strawberry roan, Sabino pattern. The foal was WILD looking. To draw out her registration papers, I put a chair under the shade tree, tied the mare, got me a few Colas and just sat and sketched all the little markings. It took 1 1/2 hours!!! Hence the name SURPRISE. The foal was actually PINK! A beautiful shade of mauve. The Lipizzan registry actually CALLED me, “Are you KIDDING with this?” It was funny. Of course, she lightened with age. But when she was wet, you could see the darker skin against the white. Looked like an appaloosa, but was pure white. When I sold her, I startled the new owners by giving them registration papers dating back 300 years! LOL. Not your usual Quarter Horse papers! This was taken with a Minolta SLR.
