The African Lion (Panthera leo) is the largest of the three big cats of Africa, with males weighing up to 225 kgs.

Unique amongst all wild cats lions have a social structure and the males look different to females with their large manes.

African Lions are well known as the iconic big cats of Africa, yet populations have declined by almost half in just two decades, and lions have even become rare in parts of their range.
