Art for chimps - The Tacugama Relief Project

Hey everyone, it seems like such a long time since I’ve shared anything with you here at redbubble. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy, in fact I’ve been flat out cooking up another project, this time partnering with fellow Untamed Artist Patrick Hedges for a 2 man exhibition at Monarto Zoo in South Australia.…

The exhibition will coincide with the opening of the zoo’s new chimpanzee habitat and raise money for the habitat and also Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone.

Inspired by the passion of the Sanctuary’s founder, Bala Amarasekaran after seeing a documentary showing the work they do I was moved to start a project to help out. The result will be an exhibition of around 30 original works featuring our closest primate cousins with 70% of all sales going to both facilities to

Completed demonstrations now up for view

The final demonstration has been completed and more than 5500 people have seen my second solo show at Melbourne Zoo. For those of you interested I have uploaded the artwork to my website along with videos from the demonstrations.

If anyone would like more details on the DVD or to register their interest in the workshop please shoot me an email at wildatart@gmail.com.

Demonstration at the Bayside Art Show 2007

That’s right, I’m back on the promotional trail after having the organizers of the Bayside Art Show invited me to demonstrate for them. The subject for this demo will be a beach scene which they will use for promotional purposes at the completion of the work.
This is a fairly big deal as the Bayside Art Show is one of the larger shows in Victoria behind Camberwell. The excitement is building already!!!!

An evolution in art classes

Hi folks, I’m really enjoying my time here at rb. In conjunction with all the other things I’ve been up to lately I’ve thoroughly enjoyed designing t-shirts and the like on top of all the art stuff I’ve been doing.…

The past few weeks have been hectic with my moving house, teaching, finishing commissions, delivering artwork to galleries pretty much weekly as they keep selling, rebuilding my website(www.leighrust.com), getting new art ready for more galleries representing me, keeping in touch with art show organizers re: demonstrations and preparing for more commissions! Phew! That’s not even taking into account my day job.

The teaching thing is going to go online at the start of August as I relaunch the Untamed Art Classes. These will be run via email correspondence and include exclusive v

An insight to being an Untamed Artist

Hi everyone. my name is Leigh Rust and I am the founder of the Untamed Artist Network. I formed the network not only to help wildlife artists overcome issues such as quality reference materials but also to raise funds for wildlife conservation through the sale of our work.…

As a wildlife artist I am very sensitive to the issue of survival for many species. Much of the animal kingdom is made up of creatures which we could learn a great deal from.

Many animals such as meerkats have a very unselfish attitude sadly lacking in our society these days. They look out for one another, protect each other from predators and help rear the young as a group.

In Borneo one of our close relatives, the orangutans are being forced from their environment as big business destroys the forests for palm oil.
