Artist's Description

South Stack lighthouse, built in 1809 to protect ships from the rocks in the area. Located on South Stack rock, a few metres from Holy Island, itself just off the isle of Anglesey, the lighthouse has had tragic past. On Tuesday 25th October 1859, during the biggest storm of the century, the assistant keeper on his way down to the lighthouse was hit in the head by a rock and died three weeks later.
