Artist's Description

On 27th November 1994 the three chimneys of Ciff Quay Power Station, Ipswich, Suffolk were blown up in a controlled demolision. Unfortunately it was a very dull day and I my Olympus Trip camera didn’t have a zoom capacity.

These are three scanned photos from my original photographs. The first sees the three chimneys standing. The second with one chimney standing, one on its way down and the other completely destroyed. The bottom photo just shows all the dust as the chimney’s have hit the ground.

The Cliff Quay coal powered power station opened in 1949 and closed in 1985. Most of the coal arrived at the power station by boat from along the River Orwell.

The photograph was taken from The Strand, Wherstead side of the river.
