Artist's Description

Some facts about pharma bro Martin Shkreli and Daraprim, the drug he raised to $750 per pill:
- The drug is a generic brand and not under patent.
- There is one producer in the United States.
- There are massively expensive regulatory barriers to entry for new drug companies, hence why you don’t see “mom and pop” operations.
- The federal government is responsible for it being too difficult for competitors to enter the American market producing Daraprim.
- In India, where the regulations are less predatory, a Daraprim pill costs 5 cents.

If the government weren’t getting in the way, Shkreli would have had a very real motivation to keep the pill affordable: his competitors would take his market share otherwise. Don’t blame the pharma bro; blame Washington.
