Life lesson

I was out in the kitchen preparing a whole chicken that we were going to have for dinner tonight. Now my kids have seen me clean out and stuff a million birds. My youngest Trevor age seven was out there talking to me about his day at school, the normal nightly talk. Well he gets real quiet all of the sudden and I notice how he is really watching me stuff the chicken. Just watching me real close, I can see the question coming. “Mom, he says, what are you doing?” ‘ Well , I reply, I’m putting stuffing in this chickens butt.”
His eyes get real big, his face turns a little white. Now I’m realizing that he is just now making the connection in this.
Hell, I think why stop there. I pick up the chicken and begin to tell him about how about a week ago this chicken was on a farm with his chicken friends clucking and running around. I point to where the head of the chicken use to be, show him the little wings, and then point out the legs to him making the chicken dance a little while I tell him.
“Well are you sure that’s the butt?” “Well yes, I reply all living things have butts” A moment of this and his eye’s are getting bigger, I can tell he made the entire connection. He realized for the first time that we do eat real chickens like you find on a farm. “Mom, I think I’m just going to eat macaroni and cheese tonight.”
Yep, we just had a life lesson in the kitchen, tonight. Next week were going to look at where hamburgers come from. Got to admit being a Mom is just damn fun!
