Artist's Description

This image was taken at the Rosebud Sioux South Dakota Pow wow 2010, at the end of the Jingle dance.

The Jingle dance is considered the ‘healing dance’. The dancers wear regalia covered in tin cones, that “jingle” or knock together when the dancer uses bouncy steps.
The dress is bright in colour and decorated with beads, ribbons, applique, and paint. The dress is accompanied by matching beaded barrettes, pursesk leggins, and moccasins. Many contempory dancers have eagle plumes in their hair and carry a feather fan that is lifted during ‘honour’ beats during the dance. The dancer’s feet move with exacting movements in time with the drumbeats.
Once again this dance has a spiritual beginning where a medicine man had a dream about how to heal his daughter/grand daugher (depending on the version you read).
