The Spice Garden 2012

Designed by Wendy Sysouphat
The spice garden is inspired by the bright colours and the spices for which the city of Marrakesh is famous, and also by the Jardin Majorelle, which is a beautiful botanical garden not far from the city centre. This artwork features in particular the spice plants ginger, cinnamon, green cardamom, black pepper, turmeric, and saffron, each of which is growing in a colourful, decorated flowerpot. Medium: Textile art. Appliqué, and hand stitching including straight stitch, back stitch, whipped back stitch, laced spaced back stitch, stem stitch, whipped stem stitch, blanket stitch, fly stitch, chain stitch, detached chain stitch, French knot, couching, and beading, using cotton and synthetic threads, metallic thread, silk ribbon, glass and synthetic beads, and fabrics including cottons, polycotton, and synthetic.
