Mr. Carton

What if Mr. Carton was less?
Would it be a far far better rest?

Without the sacrifice to love,
The blade falling from above.

Would Marie have been so brave,
Without Carton’s selfless save.

And would the story be as true,
Without the sacrafice so blue.

Would the cities have a tale,
Without a hero to hail.

I admit I have shed a tear,
For the man without fear.

I can only hail his heart,
When head and body part.

And though he is not real,
The story still makes me feel.

I will let my heart sing,
For that far far better thing.

Mr. Carton

Artist's Description

You will understand if you have read a Tale of Two Cities…or seen the movie versions…I suppose.

This is a tribute to Sydney Carton, who gave his life for the love he had for a woman.
